A new approach
The idea arises
I was not surprised that Morten someday would propose to me, but I did not know that he would be proposing in Rome. So he really surprised me that evening...
We talked about getting married, even before we went to Rome, and the various ways and places we could keep our wedding at.
We belong to Sorgenfri church in Denmark and it's not Denmark's most beautiful church…far from!
It is a modern yellow brick building and doesn’t look like a beautiful traditional Danish church.
The actual ceremony meant a lot to both Morten and I, so after visiting the church, we were very much in doubt. None of us could see ourselves getting married there, so we began exploring other options.
We contacted other churches in the area, but it was not possible for them to marry us.
So we were back to square one.
Morten suggested that we could get married in the Catholic Church in Copenhagen and it was a good opportunity (Morten is a Roman Catholic, because he originates from Hungary).
We began to explore different places where we could hold the wedding party at, but the longer into the planning we went, the more questions arose.
We could not see ourselves in the wedding we were planning and one of the before mentioned questions was, who are we celebrating the wedding for; ourselves or friends and family?
While we were in Rome, we went and looked at several of its many beautiful churches. We also visited one which lies in Trestevere on the other side of the Tiber. It lies on the highest of Rome’s hills, Gianicolo, and has a fantastic view over Rome.
The church itself is smaller than most traditional Catholic churches, but very beautiful in itself. When we arrived, the church was decorated with flowers and there was going to be a wedding. We didn’t see the actual wedding, cause we didn’t like to disturb.
Suddenly, on the way back to the hotel, Morten looked at me and said, very enthusiastically: 'Why don’t we just get married here in Rome ... think about it, we will never find a more romantic city and there is nowhere else in the world which has so many beautiful churches. "
I must admit that my first thought was “no way”.
The reason for this was, that the idea scared me a little, because it was demanding enough to plan a wedding at home in Denmark, so I dared not even think about how we could plan a wedding in Rome (a completely different culture and language, just to mention some of the thoughts that ran through my mind).
But Morten was dreaming ahead and I could not quite get the idea out of my mind and it was fortunately not long before my adventurous spirit took over and I said yes.
And so began the planning of our dream wedding............
